Press Release – Introductions Necessary Reaches 100 Episodes

“INTRODUCTIONS NECESSARY” PODCAST REACHES 100 EPISODES

Daily podcast featuring women in STEM fields has released episodes featuring 100 biographies of women throughout history who have shaped our world.

WASHINGTON D.C. –  April 9, 2016

With an episode featuring astronomer Carolyn Shoemaker, the podcast Introductions Necessary reached its 100th episode today.  Shoemaker holds the record for the most comets discovered by a living person, including her part in the discovery of Shoemaker-Levy 9 in 1993.

Introductions Necessary is a daily podcast which launched on January 1st 2016 with a goal to feature short biographies of 365 notable women in STEM fields.  Beginning with an episode on Marie Curie, the podcast has discussed the women who helped mold our earliest scientific understandings like mathematician and astronomer Hypatia, and women who are making the breakthroughs of today like Gabriela Gonzalez’s contribution to the detection of gravitational waves.  The one hundred women profiled have included the earliest computer programmers, women who have created and discovered elements, and scientists changing our understanding of both animals and ourselves.

“Some of these women were actively written out of history, some were forgotten, some were ignored.  But by bringing them to the forefront, the lesson is that when it comes to women in science, technology, engineering, and math we have always been here,” says podcast director and host Mary Ratliff.  She says that the podcast team aims to show young girls with STEM interests that there are role models and inspiring stories to help them no matter what field they are passionate about.

The podcast is actively seeking suggestions from listeners of women to feature in future episodes.  They can be contacted at info@introductionsnecessary.com.
